Data Editor is a freely available program/tool created by Caveman for WWE 2k games on the PC that features a Graphical User Interface. It allows users to easily create, edit and save .pofo, .moveset, .team_info and .attire_names files as well as install them into the game with the help of Custom Character Tools unlock alternate attires for wrestlers via the Universal Alternate Attire Unlocker GUI and change attire names, apply a workaround to enable winning music for all attires of a wrestler, announcer settings and more. Some features are only available in certain Editions.

When the WWE games series returned to the PC with WWE 2k15, manual editing of .pofo and .moveset files with a hex editor was all the rage. In order to make editing and creation of these files as well as modding in general easier for the community, Caveman, who had been looking for a project to freshen up his coding skills for a Java exam, decided to kill two birds with one stone and programmed the Wrestler Information and Moveset Creator for WWE 2k15.
As WWE 2k16 was released, he adapted the tool for the new game but since he added more features to the tool and it could now edit more data than just wrestler information and movesets, he renamed the tool to Data Editor for WWE 2k16. During this time he decided to collaborate with friend TheVisitorX to integrate the latter's upcoming Custom Character Tools closely with the Data Editor in order to ease the installation and editing of mods for the community, a synergy which has remained in new editions of the mentioned tools since then.
As WWE 2k17 was released, Caveman updated the Data Editor for WWE 2k17 the biggest version to date. New features like editing Attire Names, Commentary and more were added.
As WWE 2k18 was announced, Caveman begun to develop the Data Editor for WWE 2k18. Data Editor for WWE 2k18 reached closed beta status on November 10 2017.[[There is no estimated release date so far - it will be released when it's ready.Data Editor for WWE 2k18 sports new features, such as a custom Match Editor, a completely revamped Attire Unlocker GUI, quality of life improvements such as being able to choose where to save your edited/created files, list ID dropdown boxes with names first, auto-append Wrestler, Team and Match names to file names when saving and much more.
Caveman has released Data Editor for WWE 2k19 in October 2019. Due to criticism about Data Editor for WWE 2k18 taking too long to be publicly available and closed alpha and beta testing being less than fruitful, Caveman decided to release an open Alpha version of Data Editor for WWE 2k19 constantly adding features once they were implemented in hopes that the community will be more helpful with the feedback (alas, the latter wasn't the case) While the features remained roughly the same as the WWE 2k18 version, some refinements have been made.
Due to developer Caveman having to focus on staying alive, his waning interest in WWE itself as well as the WWE 2k series of games, last year's open alpha not garnering much more useful feedback than the closed alpha the year before, incredibly little interest in and even fewer appreciation shown for the development of Data Editor for WWE 2k19 by users, there likely won't be an edition for Data Editor for WWE 2k20. Hopefully other free tools like CCT will implement the most important functionality for WWE 2k20 instead.
